This was my first attempt on AI with my original design. |
THE PROCESS
The very first thing we were instructed to do was sketch a ton. I'm very thankful that we were told to do this, because if I had been on my own, I probably would've just gone straight to the computer and failed miserably. My final product was actually quite different from my final sketch, and very, very different from my first sketch. When I first started brainstorming, I had my two initials-E.H.-completely separate from each other. I thought that that was it, so i started to just practice drawing different styles of letters to replace in the logo. While doing this, I stumbled across an E looking shape in the negative space of the H. This is when I got the idea to place the E inside of the H. This is essentially what my final logo was, but it looked completely different because I had conformed my H shape to a circle frame. You will see this sort of design in my first attempt on Adobe Illustrator. It turned out that that design was very difficult to transfer onto the computer, which I was actually worried about while sketching.
CHOICES
The shapes I chose sort of just fell into my lap while I was sketching. I basically just chose the shapes that fit well together and created the most appealing shape. Once I had a firm idea of what I wanted my logo to look like, I realized that the best way to be able to see the shapes and letters would be to make a basic shape, and make the initials in the negative space/inside the basic shape. For three of my final logos I used a rectangle for the background. Then I started experimenting with other shapes, like a circle. This way I could fade the color out to the edge of the shape. I liked this color combo because you could still see the shape clearly, but it wasn't a sharp cut off of the color.
